Sony could use something like this...gotta wonder how this compares to Gcam.

On the newer models, on the other hand, the processing is instantaneous but you'll still end up getting different images from what you have seen on the viewfinder. Get your hands on the actual retail device then come back.

All samples for these phones with quadbayer/nonacell have exposure issues at highest resolution mode. Evidence of no HDR is being applied. Doing frame stacking with 100ms readout per frame? 😂🤣 I suppose you know this means 0.1s to scan whole sensor before it can do next frame. Now imagine that samsung's HDR does way more than 10 frames. Now you know why pixel 6 pro blocks the 50/48MP modes .... If the rumors of iphone Pro using 48MP bayer are true, this will be full of DRAM to keep same 10ms of the 13 pro.

Samsung's 108MP mode captures more absolute details than its 12MP mode in JPEG even if the former doesn't offer pixel-level perfect image quality and that's a fact. If one believes it's infeasible, they can easily disable it. "Now imagine trying to do HDR with 108MP while shooting raw. No mobile SoC has power enough" You do understand that S22 Ultra DOES shoot 108MP with HDR when shooting JPEG, right? It stacks multiple frames in RAW, stacks them together then compresses the final image down to JPEG to save it to the storage. Also, if a two-generation-old Mi 10 Ultra can combine several 48MP images almost instantaneously using a ported version of GCam, I don't see how S22 Ultra wouldn't be able to do the same with its own, optimised camera app.

Despite being inferior quality and much smaller sensor, file would be as big as one from large sensor. Now imagine trying to do HDR with 108MP while shooting raw. No mobile SoC has power enough. Some expensive cameras are even using dual processor setup to increase power for this kind of task.

Honestly, it's quite baffling that Samsung followed Apple's path and decided to apply somewhat heavy-handed post processing to its stacked RAW files. It's good to have some control over shutter speed, ISO, white balance etc. but for those who actually prefer "purer" RAWs for maximum editing flexibility, GCam is still a better choice. Also, why no option to shoot in 108MP?

Olympus Oms, 25 May 2022 Still a useless app. Can't use 108MP or super zoom in it or as raw manual. If you'd think for two seconds you'd understand why a 16-bit stacked mode doesn't offer any more than twice the zoom of the lens. It literally wouldn't make any sense to do 10x digital zoom on top of the supported zoom. The same goes for 108MP mode. This native computational photography app is designed to do that, not to take plain photos. If you want that, use the default camera app.

Now of course, I have no idea how the 8+ Gen 1 performs thermally, but the Plus seems to be considerably more efficient than the regular, based on this site's testing.
